SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2023

The Growth Collective

For racial equity advocates, racial reconcilers, and practitioners of DE&I in organizational life

Catalyze your growth and deepen your impact as a racial equity practitioner.

The Growth Collective is a community of practice designed to help you workshop ideas, process leadership challenges, get real time feedback on your current DEI or racial equity programming, and to build a network of collaboration with a group of brilliant humans who care about changing the world just as much as you do.

Creating and sustaining diversity in organizational and community life is difficult work.

And when you’re the person tasked with leading the change, the work gets even more challenging. Not only are you responsible for educating others, for designing accessible DEI programs, and for strategizing for systems-wide change, but you are also tasked with navigating the complexities of your own identity and lived experiences. Far too many DEI practitioners and racial equity advocates—those with the official title and those who volunteer in this capacity–—are navigating this journey alone. Far too many DEI practitioners are trying to drive organizational change without the support, encouragement, and accountability of others who understand their journey.

Does this sound like you? Are you trying to change the world without having your own safe and constructive place to land?

If so, I designed this 6-week cohort for you, whether you have “DEI” in your official title or not.

As a fellow DEI leader, I’m still recovering from “it’s all up to me” syndrome.

For years, I believed that the only way change would happen would be if I, alone, rolled up my sleeves and got to work. And while a lone, passionate person can stir up some good trouble, what’s actually needed to face the issues of our time are communities of practice where we learn together, try new things, get real feedback, and lean on one another for support.

I created The Growth Collective because after years of racial justice education and DEI research, I saw a need for the cultivation of learning community amongst DEI leaders, racial reconcilers, and racial equity champions. Group coaching spaces are more effective than 1:1 spaces because you get to refine your ideas within a collective. You get to hear from multiple vantage points and you get to wrestle with big ideas with folks who understand where you’re coming from.

If you want to feel empowered, motivated, and clear-eyed about the DEI work you’re leading, The Growth Collective is the space for you.

What are they looking to transform in their life or business? Break them down to bite size pieces.

In the words of past participants…

"Others should consider applying because the comradery, encouragement, support, and openness for learning and growth in this space was unparalleled to anything I've experienced to date. I also found the diversity of perspectives that came together in this space from folks all over the world in vastly different industries all working toward similar DEI goals was so broadening for my own mindset." - SUMMER 2022 Participant

/

"I can't recommend the Growth Collective highly enough. I was familiar with Bethaney's work through her podcast, so I was really looking forward to learning from her. What I wasn't totally prepared for was the huge depth of knowledge and support that I would gain from the other members of the collective. It was the experience of holding space with this group that really made it truly revelatory for me." - Vanessa, Head of Development for RHA Gallery

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS •

  • The Growth Collective is for formal and informal DEI practitioners of all racial/ethnic backgrounds. If you are advocating for increased diversity, or for more inclusive and equitable practices in your context, you are welcome—whether “DEI” is in your title or not.

  • Nope! No training is necessary. You don’t need a college degree. You don’t need tons of professional experience. You can be an entry level employee or a seasoned leader. But you do need to have a commitment to personal development. You also need some semblance of a vision for what diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice might look like in your context. Lastly, you have to be interested in changing your behaviors to reach the goals you have in heart and mind.

  • Absolutely. The sooner you can immerse yourself in community with other practitioners in this space, the better. Your vision will be clearer. Your sense of purpose will be more aligned. You will be able to craft a DEI practice on a firm and authentic foundation. Don’t wait until you feel more “official.” You have everything you need right now to take the leap into this work. You don’t need anyone’s approval or validation to take this step towards more aligned leadership. Just jump in. We got you.

If you don’t know where you’re going specifically, but you know racial equity is the general work you want to be part of, we can work with that too. Bring your questions and your hopes, and we’ll help you build out a strategy you’ll be eager to embody after this learning experience is over.

  • You will learn best practices and frameworks for change that you can take back to your local community. The cohort will see gaps in your program and support you in fixing them. You will troubleshoot the internal and external DEI challenges you’re facing. You will be held accountable. You will come up with new and energizing ideas. You will be able to not have all the answers, for once. You will be grafted into a community with other practitioners from around the world who can support you long after our cohort is over.

It’s one thing to set your sights on being an impactful leader. It’s another thing to put yourself in a situation where good impact becomes inevitable. The Growth Collective will make your DEI work more effective and more fun. Guaranteed.

  • Yes! If you work for a company and “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging” are in your title, then YES! This is an investment in the DEI work of the organization or company you work. If you need help making the case for them to cover it, let us know at admin@bethaneywilkinso.com.

  • Yes! I have been there. And being part of group learning experiences like this one is one of the best ways for you to discern what race conscious leadership means for you. It’s different for each of us, and this container will help you sort out the work that is actually yours to do. Join us.

  • This is not a distinctly religious or spiritual learning environment, but I am a trained spiritual director and breathwork facilitator who often draws on lessons from my many years of rootedness in various Christian spiritual traditions. I value diversity in all forms here and do my best to create learning atmospheres that are dignifying of people from all religious and spiritual backgrounds. We have so much to learn from one another, and The Growth Collective seeks to amplify that.

  • Yes, absolutely. All are welcome, affirmed, and validated here. We do not debate the dignity of people in this space. One of our values as an organization is reverence for all human beings. People are sacred and we celebrate the rich diversity of human experiences. We are also always working to create learning spaces that are as inclusive and reparative of harm as possible. We invite you to journey with us toward that end.

  • There is an application process to help us get to know you, your context, your availability, and the unique challenges and gifts you’re bringing to this learning experience. We are hoping for a diverse, engaged, and passionate group to form this cohort. Our application process helps us to make that happen, which will ultimately create a better learning experience for you. If you’re concerned about any aspect of the application process, please email us at admin@bethaneywilkinson.com.

  • No, not at all! Your application will be given equal consideration whether you select a reparative community rate or the full rate. The most important thing related to your application is timing. The sooner you apply, the sooner we can confirm your spot.

  • Yes, I will open the waitlist after this session is filled. If this cohort goes well, I’ll open the waitlist for 2024.

  • Each person’s journey is unique, as are the outcomes of their experience. But, my hope is for you to become a more aligned, integrated, and self-possessed racial equity leader and DEI practitioner. My hope is for you to focus on what is in your control and to create a change strategy that feels inspiring to others while also good to you as a person. Some people may experience The Growth Collective and realize they don’t want to lead DEI work anymore. Some people may experience The Growth Collective and realize this is the work they will do the rest of their lives. It all depends. But the hope is for you to become more authentically you, while leading others towards a vision that is sustainable.

Growth becomes possible when you’re planted in the right place.
